Birds started chirping. The world restored its colour which the night had stolen. People began waking up but the Wilsons were wide awake all night. They had put on a composed face but were tenser than ever. Reason had been Mrs Wilson's cardiac surgery which was due that day.
On cosy bluish-white sheets rested Mrs Wilson. Her grey hair resting on her face, annoying her. She was too weak to shove them off her face. She sniffed mildly and checked the time. It was what she had expected, except there was something she waited for.
Tring tring-tring tring
The phone rang, enlightening her face. "My daughter is always so punctual," she thought to herself with pride.
Jennifer hadn't known by then what the rest of the family was going through. She would only ever talk to Mrs Wilson. The news had to reach her late.
After informing Jenny about the surgery, Mrs Willson heard Jenny's encouraging words, enough to help her get through the tide of problems. Mrs Willson then touched the topic she visited several times in the past.
"When are you planning to come back home?"
"Can't. I would rather call you here."
Mrs Willson felt some disappointment but it faded away as she thought of an idea.
"Make arrangements for my arrival. I'll fly towards you as soon as they're ready."
"Momma, relax. Arrangements will be made soon, alright?" And those were the reassuring words Mrs Willson had to hear. Jenny, however just said them blandly.
"Yeah...I-" Jennifer heard sobs at the other end.
"I just want to meet you soon. God knows how much I had freaked out when I heard about that girl"
"huh?"
Mrs Willson took a deep breath and composed herself then said, "A girl from your trekking camp had an accidental fall. They say it happened a month ago or so. Have you heard of it? Who was she and is she fine now?"
"I've no clue. Hundreds of girls all over the country are here."
Silence fell between them which Jenny hated, she knew her mother would replace it with overthought worries for her safety. That was the worst time to worry about that though.
"Alright, I will open up Jen. I am not willing to spend a moment more in the middle of these hopeless white sheets and bright, harsh lights. I want to be with you, dear." Jenny hesitated on hearing sobs at the other end, again.
"I know mom, stay strong. We'll meet...someday."
"Why 'someday' ?" asked the anxious Mrs Willson.
Jennifer stayed silent, as she thought for an answer.
"Don't worry about that. We will meet. Just know that much."
"Alright. Goodbye dearie, take care. The nurse is asking me to take some rest so..."
"Yeah, you should. Take care too"
The conversation ended there, however, the call didn't. How would it? Have you ever declined a call which was never made in the first place?
You might not have. But in Mrs Willson's case, she was called. She was called to a place filled with peace, a place where her daughter had been for a month.
For the world, her call logs were empty.
But for what Mrs Willson had known, she was called
...and she went.
oh my god .....i almost cried....it was amazing :)
