Your Second Chance!

Your time starts, NOW!

When I was about seven, I had heard about a trick, which totally changed the way I started looking at the world. Here I am sharing it with you, my dear readers! (it stays between us though ;) )

Ten years from now,

Imagine yourself amidst loneliness and misery, sitting on a lone rock by an abandoned farmhouse. You are sitting there, filled with regret, for all the mistakes you’ve made intentionally, for all those opportunities you saw coming but ignored. You scream in remorse, once, twice and the third time, you yell out God’s name. You start begging for a second chance, desperately, deliberately, as if you have a lot of changes to make in your past and you just know exactly which and where, how and when. All you need is to go back.

God hears you, he not only hears you but blesses your wish to come true.

However, he keeps forth a condition.

The condition states that although you will get back the past ten years of your life, you will remember nothing about getting a second chance after having got it. Absolutely nothing.

You joyously and gratefully nod your head and inhale deeply, as you promise yourself to change your life for the better.

You all are pretty lucky though, after having got your second chance, you have also known that it is a second chance after coming across this article.

Just kidding, you know I am. But think about it again. Look at your life as a second chance. A chance where NOW is when the time is all yours. When you get to choose how to spend it, how to make the best out of it. Is that not wonderful? If that is not, I don’t know what is.

We all tend to take a few things so leniently, as though they were just supposed to be the way they are. But that is extremely wrong. We have to be grateful to these few things all along our lifetime...at least until they are there with us.

Back to a day when I was seven,

One early morning, I decided to pour some water on my elder sister to wake her up. It was just an innocent mischievous thing kids do, so I did it too, not that I didn’t like her. But things came out pretty much differently…

I sprinkled a few drops on her face and she immediately got up. I was expecting some aggressive words from her, or at the worst some versions of ‘stupid’ and ‘donkey’ but she sang out a happy, cheerful “Yes!” as if she just won a football match in Olympics. Then she smiled, naturally, and prayed to God.

She left me in a lot of confusion though. For years, I stacked that incident in my list of weird incidences.

Now when I look back, I realise why she did it. She used to say the ‘Yes!’ every morning. It was her way to thank life, for a new day, for having kept her safe and sound on the beautiful morning of a beautiful day, and for keeping her loved ones only as fit and fine as her.

Is that not something we take for granted? A new day. It is a blessing to live a new day. We all shall be grateful for it. All things that are free of cost don’t mean they are worthless. Some things have an inexplicably lot amount of worth...

Yes, a new day, a new start, a new chance are all free of cost, only because they are all too valuable to even think about their worth.

Lastly, I would like to wish you all a great day ahead and I would especially want to congratulate you for the very fact that you are alive!

(Yeah, now you are supposed to say “Thank you” because your time to start appreciating your life for giving you a chance to live and for making the best use of it, starts NOW!)

Clara Winslow's Favourite Song

'Clara Winslow wins song of the year at Grammy Awards 2025', read the headline. She made it , I thought to myself before letting the overwhelming flood of memories take over.   I was interning at a music summer camp when I first met Clara Winslow, a frail girl with freckled cheeks, long bronze hair and eyes so expressive they almost appeared animated. When I assigned the kids their first activity of the summer, I vividly recall how Clara's eyes lit up.  'Listen to music across various genres, cultures, languages and pick your favourite song' ,  read the chalkboard behind me.  It was quite a task to get the rest of the class started. Clara however, was a natural. I don't think she spent a minute without her headphones and notepad. That was the only time I interacted with the kids and although most were adorable, Clara Winslow left an impression instantly.  Later that day and for every day since, I was assigned generic prep work so I barely saw the kids....

The Ominous Letter

I listen to what you say when you believe you’re alone. I know what you would rather do if you knew nobody was watching . I can feel you tense at my words. I can hear your breathing pattern cautiously pause.    When your grandmother said “Mind what you let occupy your mind”, where were you?  She may not have known the core reason behind what she preached, but she was right in thinking it was essential to protect you. She had every reason to be concerned. It is one of the greatest mysteries of the human race how nobody discovered that thoughts are logged. There are arrays of them incrementally pouring in as you read this. I have unhindered access to each thought of yours, as much as I would like otherwise.  Some of the thoughts are periodically repeated. As a bunch, they collectively move forward to take the form of an action.  I sit there in pain at the very onset of your first immoral thought, praying it never finds its bunch.  My job is to send back uninv...
