He, who loved the rain

I hadn't once seen him carry his umbrella when it poured. He would stand still below the rain, hands stretched and head towards the sky and a strange smile would cross his lips. He knew how to seize the moment, while I stood in the shed with hands crossed and forehead creased waiting for the cold-unwelcomed rain showers to stop.

I had been enough agitated since the bus I was waiting for hadn't shown up soon. To add up the frustration, my handbag half fell in mud before I could catch hold of it. Urgh. How I hated wet mud. The boy then noticed me for the first time and asked if I loved rains too. Having heard that, my first reaction was "hell no" but I just nodded.

"I love how this wet mud smells," he said. While I was cursing the same wet mud a few seconds ago, he went on talking about why he liked it which made a part of me agree with him. But that did not mean I would like my handbag to be bathed in it.

When my bus arrived, I got in making haste but the boy still stood where he was. "You are lying...you don't like rains," he said before the bus zoomed by. Next day around the same timing as expected it was raining. The boy was the only company I had at the bus stop. He was not carrying an umbrella that day either.

While everyone else would freeze in the cold showers he was enjoying them. "Umm do you need an umbrella? I guess you should-" before I even offered to help his enraged eyes shouted 'how dare you' next his voice became more hoarse, "You do NOT like rain. How CAN you not like it, huh? You HAVE to like it." he threatened me.

"Come on...chill! It's just rain. And it's my choice whether I like it or not. You don't have a say in it." I said while starting to freak out on the inside.

"You would never say that. EVER AGAIN." he shouted. "But-" was all I could manage to say before my voice was muffled.

Rest of the night was a blur. It was a mixture of me yelling, struggling and eventually- giving up. But the best part? I have never felt cold in my life ever after. Or even if I did, the cold never bothered me, ever.

I don't need an umbrella.
I love the rains. I am only waiting for it, and for people who don't like it.
Because I just cannot stand them.

Oh, I just forgot to get to the main question!

Do you like those lonely nights, when freezing cold winds blow and it pours..?

Clara Winslow's Favourite Song

'Clara Winslow wins song of the year at Grammy Awards 2025', read the headline. She made it , I thought to myself before letting the overwhelming flood of memories take over.   I was interning at a music summer camp when I first met Clara Winslow, a frail girl with freckled cheeks, long bronze hair and eyes so expressive they almost appeared animated. When I assigned the kids their first activity of the summer, I vividly recall how Clara's eyes lit up.  'Listen to music across various genres, cultures, languages and pick your favourite song' ,  read the chalkboard behind me.  It was quite a task to get the rest of the class started. Clara however, was a natural. I don't think she spent a minute without her headphones and notepad. That was the only time I interacted with the kids and although most were adorable, Clara Winslow left an impression instantly.  Later that day and for every day since, I was assigned generic prep work so I barely saw the kids....

The Ominous Letter

I listen to what you say when you believe you’re alone. I know what you would rather do if you knew nobody was watching . I can feel you tense at my words. I can hear your breathing pattern cautiously pause.    When your grandmother said “Mind what you let occupy your mind”, where were you?  She may not have known the core reason behind what she preached, but she was right in thinking it was essential to protect you. She had every reason to be concerned. It is one of the greatest mysteries of the human race how nobody discovered that thoughts are logged. There are arrays of them incrementally pouring in as you read this. I have unhindered access to each thought of yours, as much as I would like otherwise.  Some of the thoughts are periodically repeated. As a bunch, they collectively move forward to take the form of an action.  I sit there in pain at the very onset of your first immoral thought, praying it never finds its bunch.  My job is to send back uninv...
